Whip Emmer: Support Our Cattlemen With Big, Beautiful Tax Cuts

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer is touting an endorsement from a major cattle rancher organization as he pushes for Republicans in Congress to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which would extend and expand on President Donald Trump’s 2017 tax cuts.

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, a trade association with over 178,000 members, endorsed the 10-year fiscal package Monday, arguing it will help ranchers and cattlemen across the country.

Emmer, R-Minn., is proud of the endorsement, telling The Daily Signal in a statement, “From New York to California, America’s cattle producers are coming out in droves to voice their support for the One Big Beautiful Bill. They understand the historic opportunity this once-in-a-generation legislation will unleash, and we will not fail them.”

Specifically, the trade association endorses the bill’s exemption on the estate tax—a tax placed on the transfer of an inheritance.

The endorsement described this tax as “one of the greatest threats to multi-generational cattle operations.”

It continues, “Cattle producers are asset rich and cash poor, and families are often forced to sell off part of their land or livestock to pay the estate tax. Taking land and livestock out of production significantly hurts producer profitability.”

Additionally, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association endorses how the bill would make permanent the Section 199A small business deduction, which is a major tax deduction that owners of pass-through businesses use to deduct some of their business income from their taxable income.

The trade association also endorses a raise in the Section 179 tax deduction from $1 million to $2.5 million—a tax deduction which allows business owners to write off the cost of equipment on their tax returns.

“When producers know what to expect, they can confidently make estate and business plans without looking over their shoulder for an unexpected tax bill,” reads the letter.

“These proposals are essential to the continued success of America’s cattle producers.”
