Newsom Says 'Democracy Is Under Assault' in Address to Nation

In a televised address Tuesday, California Gov. Newsom said the military presence in downtown Los Angeles put in place by President Donald Trump to crack down on anti-ICE protesters has escalated the unrest, calling it a "brazen abuse of power." He added, "California may be first but it clearly will not end here. Other states are next. Democracy is next. Democracy is under assault before our eyes." NBC’s Liz Kreutz reports for TODAY.
